Upon arrival in Moscow, a foreign student must register for migration purposes. To do this, you must visit room 206 in building 2 within the first 24 hours of your arrival.

The documents required for registration include:

  • Passport
  • Notarized translation of the passport
  • Migration card
  • Copy of the referral/Contract/Agreement (for first-year students)

It is important to know:

  1. A foreign student of RSU SotsTech must register for migration:
    • at each entry into the Russian Federation;
    • at the change of place of stay in the territory of the Russian Federation;
  2. Foreign students of RSU SotsTech must timely extend the period of temporary stay (visa): no later than 40 calendar days before the expiration of the visa and no later than 30 calendar days before the expiration of the registration at the place of stay.
  3. In the event of loss of a passport (or other identity document), a foreign citizen must first contact the police authorities at the place of the alleged loss to report the loss of the documents and obtain a certificate (protocol, decree) confirming the loss of the documents. This certificate must be submitted to the Embassy of the foreign country in the Russian Federation (in the case of loss of a passport, in order to obtain a new one).
  4. In the event of damage or loss of the migration card, the foreign citizen must report this within 3 days to the nearest migration department of the territorial body of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation. Upon presentation of the documents on the basis of which the foreign citizen entered the Russian Federation, the migration department will issue a duplicate migration card free of charge.
  5. In the event of loss of the detachable part of the notification form on the arrival of a foreign citizen to the place of stay, in order to obtain a duplicate, you should contact the relevant migration department of the territorial body of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia at the place of stay (place of residence) or the HR Department of RSU SotsTech if the foreign citizen is residing in one of the dormitories of RSU SotsTech.

According to the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation

dated November 7, 2024, No. 1510 "On Conducting an Experiment to Test the Rules and Conditions for Entry into and Exit from the Russian Federation of Foreign Citizens and Stateless Persons", Federal Law No. 121-FZ dated 05/23/2025 (as amended on 07/31/2025) "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation and on Conducting an Experiment upon the introduction of additional registration mechanisms for foreign citizens,”foreign citizens entering Russia under a visa-free regime will be required to undergo digital registration. As part of the experiment to test the rules and conditions for entry into and exit from the Russian Federation for foreign citizens and stateless persons, the launch of the ruID mobile app and the creation of a digital profile for foreign citizens are scheduled for June 30, 2025.

After submitting an application, a special QR code will be generated in the app, which will be required upon entering Russia.
