The meeting of the Azerdaijani President Ilham Aliyev with the delegation of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation headed by Olga Yuryevna Vasilyeva, the Minister of Education and Science of Russia, was held in Baku on November 28, 2016.
Vagif Deyrushevich Bayramov, Rector of the Moscow State University of Humanities and Economics, together with Salavat Sagitov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Bashkortostan, Ramil Bakhtizin, Co-chairman of the Association of Higher Educational Institutions of Russia and Azerbaijan from Russian universities, Rector of the Ufa State Oil Technical University, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Azerbaijan, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the Russian Federation, etc. participated in the meeting.
The head of the Azerbaijani Republic drew attention to the success of the development of partnership relations between the states, the prospects for cooperation in higher and secondary education, and stressed that “over the past 25 years, our countries not only preserved these traditions, but also strengthened them”. In the opinion of the President, it is indicative that students have an alternative, both in professional choice and in the choice of the state affiliation of the university. It is important that now not only Azerbaijani students can study in higher educational institutions of Russia, but also students from Russia can study at the Azerbaijani universities. Such opportunity was ensured by the branches of the Moscow State University and the First Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenov, opened in Baku.
Ilham Aliyev hopes for further strengthening of bilateral relations between Russia and Azerbaijan due to the competent implementation of this development program by both Ministries of Education.
In turn, Olga Yu. Vasilyeva, Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, outlined the main problems in the field of education, highlighted the ways of solving the tasks, emphasizing the importance of mutual cooperation, proposed to open a special philological group in Moscow for graduates of Azerbaijani schools with instruction in Russian.
Representatives of both states noted the need to provide comprehensive support for the teaching of the Russian language in Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijani language on the territory of Russia where Azerbaijanis live.
